Sierra County Prospect

Sierra County is an on line newspaper in Sierra County California. Sierra County attempts to be a conduit for First Amendment Rights: The voices of contributors are their own; each writer accepts his or her own liability. We publish hearsay, gossip, conjecture, and occasionally obfuscation. It is the policy of Sierra County Prospect, on the advice of our patron, Thomas Jefferson, to vigorously criticize any government no longer respecting those individual rights which are innate within the person, endowed by the Creator.

This newspaper tells the truth as clearly as we see it.
Thomas Jefferson, the architect of our modern concept of liberty, insisted on a free press, but hated newspapers. He once said, ironically, "The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers."
However, Jefferson also said, "The only security of all is in a free press. The force of public opinion cannot be resisted when permitted freely to be expressed. The agitation it produces must be submitted to. It is necessary, to keep the waters pure."
In the spirit of Jefferson, we’ll hope to provide enough agitation to keep the waters pure.
